Semiconductors (a.k.a. “chips”) are characterized as electronic components comprised of silicon and which possess properties of conductivity. Chips are found in thousands of consumer products we use daily (think cars, cell phones, flat screen televisions, home appliances and laptops). In addition to personal goods, chips are critically important to the advancement of medical equipment, aviation, manufacturing, telecommunications, research, and defense sectors: obviously, semiconductors play an extremely important role in the global economy.
